'GBP sync paused' — every reason that happens
The eight known causes and the resolution for each.
The eight causes
A paused Google Business sync almost always has a specific, fixable cause. Here are the eight we see, with the resolution for each:
- Revoked OAuth token. The most common cause — Google has expired or revoked the connection. Reconnect from Integrations → Google Business and the sync resumes.
- Downgraded access. Your role on the listing dropped below manager, so Avago can no longer write. Restore owner or manager access, then reconnect.
- Password or security change. Changing your Google password or security settings can invalidate the token. Sign in again and re-authorise.
- Listing suspended by Google. If Google suspends the profile, nothing can sync until it's reinstated. Resolve the suspension with Google first.
- Duplicate or merged listing. If the location was merged or duplicated, the link can break. Confirm which listing is live and reconnect to that one.
- Location removed or moved. Deleting the location, or changing its address enough to need re-verification, pauses the sync until the listing is verified again.
- Conflicting edit on Google's side. A pending edit awaiting Google's review can hold the sync. Wait for Google to approve or reject it, then it continues.
- API quota or temporary outage. Occasionally Google's API is rate-limited or briefly down. These clear on their own; the sync retries automatically.
If you've reconnected and it still pauses, check your access level on the listing first — a quietly downgraded role is the cause people miss most often.
