Wix vs Squarespace.
We do not earn a penny if you pick either one, which is the only reason this comparison is worth reading. Here is where each genuinely wins, and where both leave a small business stranded.
Wix Better for control
More templates, far more settings, and an app market for anything missing. The trade-off is that you cannot change template after publishing without rebuilding, and the editor will happily let you make something ugly.
Squarespace Better for looks
Harder to make something bad, and the typography defaults are genuinely good. Fewer escape hatches when you need one specific thing it does not do.
Side by side, honestly.
We include ourselves in the last column, and the last row is the one where we lose.
| Wix | Squarespace | Avago | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Published entry price | From £9/mo | From £13/mo | Free to build, £34.99/mo to publish |
| Writes your copy for you | Partly | No | Yes |
| Change template later | No | Yes | Yes |
| Imports from your socials | No | No | Yes |
| Template count | 900 plus, mixed quality | About 150, curated | 32, curated |
| App or plugin market | Large | Small | Built-in integrations |
| Export your site elsewhere | No | No | No |
Competitor prices are the vendors' published UK list prices and change often. Check before you buy.
Where both of them lose.
This is the honest bit, and the last one applies to us too.
The blank canvas
Both hand you an empty template and a cursor. For a plumber with forty minutes on a Sunday, that is the whole problem rather than the solution.
You write everything
Neither will read your Instagram and work out what your business does. That is hours of copywriting nobody budgeted for.
Lock-in runs both ways
Neither lets you take the built site with you, and nor do we. We would rather say so here than let you find out later.
So which one?
Questions.
Is Wix or Squarespace better for SEO?
Both are structurally fine in 2026. Squarespace produces slightly leaner pages by default, Wix gives you more control over titles and redirects. Neither will out-rank the other on platform alone, which is why the choice should come down to whether you will actually finish the site.
Can I switch from Wix to Squarespace later?
Not directly. There is no migration path between them, so it means rebuilding the site and redirecting the old URLs. Choose as though the decision is expensive to reverse, because it is.
Which is cheaper over three years?
Wix, on published list pricing, though the gap is smaller than the headline suggests once you add the plan tier that removes ads and connects a domain. Read the tier you actually need rather than the entry price.
Other comparisons.
Wix vs WordPress →
One you can use this afternoon, one you will still be configuring next month. Which suits a small business, and what each really costs to run for a year.
Squarespace vs WordPress →
Squarespace looks right out of the box. WordPress does anything, eventually. A comparison for people who want a working site, not a new hobby.
Wix vs Shopify →
Shopify is a shop with a website attached. Wix is a website with a shop attached. Which way round you need, and what each costs once the fees land.
