Generating a second-language version

When you serve customers in more than one language, Avago can produce a second-language version of your pages. It translates your existing content rather than rewriting it, so the meaning and structure stay intact. As with everything Avago writes, it works from your real copy — it isn't inventing new claims in the second language, just carrying the existing ones across. Review the result with a fluent eye before publishing; machine translation is a strong first pass, not a final proof.

hreflang and per-language URLs

Search engines need to know which version to show which visitor, and that's what hreflang is for. Avago gives each language its own URLs and adds the hreflang annotations that link the versions together, so Google serves the English page to English searchers and the French page to French searchers:

  • Each language lives at its own clean path.
  • hreflang tags declare the relationship between equivalent pages.
  • A default version is set for visitors who don't match any language.

This is handled for you as part of the multi-language setup; the technical wiring is correct and standards-based.

Tone consistency across languages

A translation can be accurate and still sound like a different business. To keep one voice across languages:

  1. Set your tone or custom voice before you translate, so the source is already on-brand.
  2. Check that idioms and turns of phrase read naturally, not literally.
  3. Keep names, product terms and your call-to-action wording consistent across versions.
  4. Where a phrase doesn't translate well, rewrite it in the target language rather than forcing the literal version.

If a language really matters to your business, have a native speaker review it. Avago gets you most of the way; a human ear closes the gap between correct and natural.
