How site backups work and how to restore one

30-day rolling, full or per-page restore. When backups are taken and what they include.

When backups happen

You don't have to remember to back anything up — Avago keeps 30-day rolling backups of your site automatically. Snapshots are taken as you work and around publishes, and the rolling window means you always have the last 30 days to fall back on, with older snapshots ageing out as new ones are taken. There's nothing to schedule and nothing to store yourself.

What's included

A backup captures the state of your site so a restore brings back a real, working version:

  • Your pages and their structure
  • All content — text, images and settings
  • Your theme and styling

In other words, enough to return a page or the whole site to exactly how it was at that point in time.

Per-page restore

You rarely need to roll back everything. If one page got messed up, restore just that page from an earlier snapshot and leave the rest of the site untouched. This is the everyday safety net: experiment on a page, and if it goes wrong, put that single page back to how it was a day or a week ago.

Full-site rollback

When a change affected the whole site — a template switch you regret, a global style gone wrong — you can roll the entire site back to a previous snapshot in one move. It's the bigger hammer for the rarer case, and because the window is 30 days, you've got room to notice a problem and reach for it.

Before any large change — switching template, restructuring navigation, a big content overhaul — note the date and time. If it doesn't go to plan, you know exactly which snapshot to restore to.
