What is actually in a website design package.
Packages exist so agencies can quote without a call. That makes them useful for comparison and easy to misread, because the tier names mean nothing across two suppliers.
UK website design packages in 2026 cluster at three price points: around £500 for a template build with your own content, around £1,500 for a custom design with some copywriting, and £5,000 or more for bespoke design with photography and integrations. The tier names are marketing. Compare page count, revision rounds and who writes the copy.
Where the money goes.
| Package | Typical UK price | What is genuinely in it |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | £400 to £700 | A template, up to 5 pages, your copy and your photos |
| Standard | £1,200 to £2,000 | Custom design, 5 to 10 pages, light copy editing, 2 revision rounds |
| Premium | £3,500 to £6,000 | Bespoke design, photography, integrations, full copywriting |
| E-commerce | £2,500 to £8,000 | All of the above plus catalogue, payments and shipping setup |
| Avago | £0 to build | Unlimited pages, copy written for you, £34.99/mo to publish |
What to check before you sign.
The four questions that make two packages actually comparable.
How many revision rounds
Two is standard. Anything described as "unlimited" usually has a time limit instead, which amounts to the same restriction worded better.
Who writes the copy
The single biggest difference between a £500 package and a £1,500 one. If it says "client to supply content", that is your evenings.
What happens in year two
Ask for the renewal figure in writing. Hosting and maintenance are often quoted monthly in a package sold as a one-off.
Who owns the domain
If the agency registers it, moving is their decision rather than yours. Register it yourself and give them access.
Questions.
Are website packages good value?
For a straightforward brochure site, yes. Packages remove the discovery call and price the common case. They stop working the moment your requirements are unusual, because everything outside the tier is billed hourly.
What should a 5 page website package cost in the UK?
Between £400 and £2,000 in 2026, depending almost entirely on whether the copy is written for you. The design and build portion varies far less than the total does.
Why is there no e-commerce in the cheaper packages?
Because a shop is not a design job, it is a configuration job: catalogue, tax, shipping rules and payment setup. That work is real and it does not fit inside a template price.
Other costs.
What a small business website actually costs. →
Five pages, a contact form and somewhere to put your phone number. Here is what each route to that actually charges, and where the money goes.
What a website redesign costs. →
Usually more than the original, because someone has to work out what to keep. Here is the 2026 range, and an honest test for whether you need one at all.
What an online shop costs to build. →
The build price is the part everyone quotes. The fees are the part that decides whether the shop makes money, and almost nobody puts those in the proposal.
