Text widget: inline editing, line breaks, links
Everything the text widget does and the keyboard shortcuts that speed it up.
Inline editing basics
The text widget is the one you'll use most, and it's built for speed. Click into any text block and start typing — what you see is what you get. From the formatting controls you can:
- Set headings and paragraph styles
- Apply bold, italic and underline
- Build bulleted and numbered lists
- Adjust alignment
For a deliberate line break that doesn't start a new paragraph, use Shift+Enter — a plain Enter ends the paragraph and adds the usual spacing. That one distinction keeps your spacing tidy.
Adding links
To turn text into a link, select the words and choose the link control. You can point a link at:
- Another page on your site
- An external URL
- An email address or phone number
- A section further down the same page
For anything leaving your site, set it to open in a new tab so visitors don't lose their place. For email and phone, Avago formats the link so a tap on mobile opens the right app.
Keyboard shortcuts
The text widget honours the shortcuts you already know, which keeps your hands off the menus:
- Bold / italic / underline — Ctrl/Cmd+B, I, U
- Undo / redo — Ctrl/Cmd+Z and Shift+Ctrl/Cmd+Z
- Link — Ctrl/Cmd+K
- Soft line break — Shift+Enter
When you paste from Word or a web page, paste as plain text (Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+V) to strip the hidden formatting that would otherwise fight your theme styles.
