Connecting a domain from GoDaddy
Step-by-step with screenshots of the GoDaddy DNS panel.
GoDaddy DNS panel
To point a GoDaddy domain at Avago you work in GoDaddy's DNS settings. Sign in to GoDaddy, go to your Domain Portfolio, select the domain, and open DNS (or Manage DNS). You'll see a list of existing DNS records — this is where both changes are made. Keep the two target values Avago gave you in your domain settings to hand as you go.
Adding the A record
The A record points your bare domain at Avago:
- In the DNS records list, add a record of type A (or edit the existing one).
- Set Host (Name) to
@, which represents the root domain. - Set Value (Points to) to the IP address Avago provided.
- Leave TTL at the default and save.
If an A record on @ already exists pointing somewhere else, edit that one rather than adding a second — you should only have one A record on the root.
Adding the CNAME
The CNAME handles the www version:
- Add a record of type CNAME.
- Set Host (Name) to
www. - Set Value (Points to) to the target Avago gave you.
- Save.
Verifying
Back in Avago, open your domain settings and let it check the records. GoDaddy usually propagates within an hour, sometimes faster. When both records show as detected and SSL has been issued, the Go live button activates and you can publish to your domain.
GoDaddy occasionally appends your domain to CNAME values automatically. If verification stalls, check the saved CNAME doesn't read
www.example.com.example.com— remove the duplication if it does.
